Bounce these ideas around.

What do you think of my new feature? It took way more time than I anticipated. Having done it once, though, I've already thought of a better method, so look for the BOUNCE feature on a bi-weekly basis. The idea is to find the best new marketing ideas that can be applied to membership organizations. I also invite anyone to share links they recommend in the comments section.

Branding Link
Paul Williams on the Marketing Profs Daily Fix Blog tells us to think in terms of reputation rather than brand. He also gives us a killer reading list, in case branding is your topic du jour.

PR Link
Qui Diaz talks about the dance between PR professionals and the press on The Buzz Bin. Besides suggesting we add the ability to rate and review news items and media assets on our websites, Qui points out a potential “Craigslist” for the media industry…www.helpareporter.com.

Direct Mail Link
Thanks to Kevin Holland by way of Jodi Kaplan for pointing to this Wharton Business School article about the resurgence of direct mail success. 'Dead-tree Medium' No Longer: For Many Marketers, Print Outperforms Digital - Knowledge@Wharton

E-mail Links
Lots of good stuff from my favorite e-mail gurus at Email Insider. Aaron Smith asks "Who Hijacked My Email Program?" He suggests ways to keep your messages from getting watered down by committee.

Melinda Krueger points us to research that shows how relying on targeted, relevant content is more effective than hard sell tactics like discount offers.

And back to Aaron Smith who suggests ways we can incrementally add customized content and segmentation to our e-mail program without biting off more than we can chew.

Social Media
Mario Sundar, LinkedIn’s community evangelist, points to easy ways to listen to social media conversations.

Geoff Livingston of The Buzz Bin discusses how integrating new media can have an impact on both PR and marketing…if you do it thoughtfully.

Paul Dunay on the Marketing Profs Daily Fix Blog asks if it’s possible to build community around a small software-as-a-service company. Most commenters felt that yes, online community-building can scale to a small, relatively unknown entity. Many, in fact, felt that smaller and more specialized is better.

Shel Holtz discusses 5 points of resistance to social media and how he has worked with organizations to overcome them.
